Location: Race Rocks Ecological Preserve, British Columbia, Canada

Race Rocks Ecological Preserve is a sanctuary for a variety marine mammals and bird species who use the site as a refuge, breading, and nesting. The park consists of several small islands surrounding a larger island that serves as the base for one of only two remaining manned lighthouses on the coast of British Columbia.

Pacific harbour seals, northern elephant seals, California sea lions, and a lone sea otter are the dominant occupants of the islands throughout the year, though they will at times migrate elsewhere in search of food. It is a popular destination as well for tourists, who arrive by vessel to view the remarkable congregation of animals. I have visited the site many times and am never less enamoured with it.

Note that the images in this collection have an additional 1/2 inch border on all sides to assist with framing.
